Abstract

Field trials were conducted in 1995, 1996, 2003 and 2004 to evaluate the effect of six intercrops in different groundnut based intercropping systems on disease severity of peanut bud necrosis disease (PBND) of groundnut. Intercropping of groundnut with bajra, sorghum, pigeonpea and maize in the ratio of 3:1 significantly reduced the incidence of PBND. The PBND incidence was reduced by 60.3 to 69.1 percent due to these intercrops. As a result of successful control of disease, an increase in pod yield of 7.36 percent to 15.48 percent was achieved in various treatments. Among the effective intercrops, bajra was found superior followed by sorghum, pigeonpea and maize. Castor and sunflower were not effective in reducing the incidence of disease and increasing the pod yield of groundnut.
