Inheritance studies in five wheat cultivars viz., HD 2329, HD 2402, PBW 343, UP 262 and WH 542 against 3 pathotypes of Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici i.e., 21(9G5), 40A(62G29) and 117-5(166G2-2) showed the presence of two dominant independent genes for resistance each in HD 2329 and PBW 343, three independent dominant genes each in HD 2402 and WH 542 and four independent dominant genes for resistance in UP 262. The segregation pattern in reciprocal crosses (AL x parent), and analysis of BC1 and BC2 to pathotype 40A(62G29) confirmed the above findings. Cultivars HD 2329 and UP 262 were susceptible to pathotype 40A(62G29) . The F2 seedlings of all the crosses among resistant parents did not segregate for susceptibility to pathotypes 21(9G5) and 117-5(166G2-1) indicating a common tactor/s providing resistance to the above pathotypes.
