Abstract

Occurrence and relative predominance of wheat foliar blight pathogens in 16 states of India, namely, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have been monitored for over a decade. Results of preceding 5 crop seasons (1994-99) have been analysed. Coehliobolous sativus, Alternaria triticina, Pyrenophora tritici-repentis and C. spieifer, with an average per cent frequency isolation of 70.65, 18.90, 3.95 and 3.65, respectively, and highest and lowest frequencies of isolation of 74 (Gujarat) and 69 (Maharashtra and Rajasthan), 21 (H.P., J. & K., Rajasthan and Tamilnadu) and 16 (U.P.), 6.5 (Bihar) and 2.5 (Delhi, Gujarat and Kerala) and 5 (Bihar) and 2.5 (Kerala and Tamilnadu), were the major pathogens present in the sample areas. Samples occasionally yielded additional pathogens, namely, C. bieolor, Setosphaeria rostrata and S. halodes in small numbers.
