Abstract

Indian wheat cultivars are mostly susceptible to Karnal bunt of wheat caused by Tilletia indica and the disease, besides lowering the quality of grains, causes rejection of seed in northern states of India. A foliar spray of propiconazole (Tilt 25 EC) at 250 and 500 ml/ha, applied at the boot leaf stage, controlled Karnal bunt in wheat up to 78 and 87%, respectively, in multilocation tests conducted during 1988-93 at New Delhi, Ludhiana and Gurdaspur (Punjab). It also resulted in higher grain yieldand is, therefore, effective for the management of this disease in the field.
