Abstract

Experiments were conducted to assess the effects of treating groundnut seeds with Pseudomonas strains FPC 32 and FPO 4 (isolated from chilli (Capsicum spp.) and rice, respectively, from Gujarat) on control of soil-borne collar rot (Aspergillus niger) and groundnut performance. Results indicated that both Pseudomonas strains showed in vitro antibiosis against the collar rot pathogen, and gave protection to groundnut seedlings against the disease, and FPO 4 gave better results than FPC 32. Germination and root growth of treated seeds was better than for an untreated control. Plants grown from treated seeds also had higher fresh and dry weight biomasses, and gave higher yields in terms of pod number and weight than the control.
