Abstract

An integrated scoring method for precise assessment of the severity of rice blast (Magnaporthe grisae) was developed. DS index values included a function of quantity as well as quality of diseased area. The daughter lesion production ability of spots or p:u ratio was taken as a measure of lesion quality. The relationship between p:u ratio and the area and colour of blast lesions was investigated, and lesion quality was expressed as numerates. The reaction of the host to rice blast was classified into 5 groups based on DS index values.
