A sample of Puccinia recondita f.sp. tritici from wheat in Nepal yielded a pathotype of 104 group producing infection types different from other pathotypes of the group. This new pathotype, designated 104-3(21R63) is described. The distinguishing features of this new pathotype compared with other pathotypes of race group 104 which are virulent on Lr23 or Lr26 or both are summarised. Among the 42 identified/released wheat lines since 1990, 21 lines were resistant against the 104-3(21R63) pathotype. Eighteen lines from the advance generation material evaluated during 1995-96 which were resistant against all the pathotypes, maintained resistance against 104-3(21R63) also. Resistance genes like Lr9, Lr19, Lr24, Lr25, Lr28 and Lr32 provide complete resistance against all the pathotypes including 104-3(21R63).
