Abstract

There was a gradual decrease in total starch, total reducing sugar and all the individual sugars in the leaflets of Khesari (Lathyrus sativus) following infection by downy mildew disease caused by Peronospora lathyri-palustris. Non-reducing sugars tended to increase; glucose-1-phosphate and glucose-1, 6-diphosphate were recorded at greater levels in diseased plants.
