Abstract

Thirteen different bamboo species planted in the bambusetum of TFRI, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India, were examined for VAM infection. All the bamboo species were infected with vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae. However, their population in rhizosphere and root infection varied to a considerable extent from species to species. Bambusa bamboos and B. polymorpha exhibited comparatively less infection but the spore population was high in the rhizosphere. There was no definite correlation between infection and sporulation of VAM fungi in different species of bamboos. Glomus mosseae and G. intraradices were dominant VAM fungi in most of the bamboo species.
