Abstract

The effect of five different concentrations of aflatoxin B_1 (100, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 μg/1) was studied on chlorophyll, protein and nucleic acid levels during seed germination and seedling growth in three popular varieties of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. varieties UP-262, Sonalika, HP-1209) seeds. The extent of fall in the levels of all the above components was directly related to the concentration of toxin applied. Varietal variations and the concentrations of toxin had highly significant effect (P < 0.001). Interaction between variety and toxin was not significant for chlorophyll-b level.
