Mature Venturia inaequalis ascospores were present in overwintering apple leaves at the silver tip stage in Mar.-Apr. with peak ascospore maturity and productivity at petal fall in Apr.-May. The av. ascospore emission period was 74 d and accumulated1189 degree days. Both Reuter Stokes predictor and deWit leaf wetness recorder tests predicted the apple scab infection periods correctly. An av. of 9 apple scab infection periods were observed in the spring and early summer in the Kotkhai belt of Himachal Pradesh. Apple scab appearance corresponded with the occurrence of first infection period after bud break. Mills' infection periods showed clear relevance with scab development in the orchard.
