Abstract
I consider it a privilege to have been invited to deliver leerasannidhi Lecture and am thankful to Indian Phytopathological Society to have done me this honour. I also take this opportunity to pay my tributes to two of my mentors, late Professor R.K. Saksena of Allahabad University and Professor George. L. Barron, Department of Environmental Science, University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
