Abstract

Mustard cake (2%), groundnut cake (1%), margosa cake (2%)and saw dust (1%) were tried as soil amendments for management of muskmelon wilt incited by Fusarium solani (Mart.) Sacc. All four organic amendments inhibited mycelial growth of F. solani in-vitro. Mustard cake and saw dust also retarded spore germination of the pathogen. Soil amendment with margosa cake reduced wilt by 80 per cent. Population of soil fungi and bacteria were 26 and 8 per cent higher, respectively in such amended soil. Mustard cake amendment reduced wilt by 65 per cent. Pathogen population in mustard cake amended soil was reduced by 17 per cent while soil bacterial population was marginally increased. Amendment with saw dust reduced population of all soil microorganisms including the pathogen. It also reduced wilt by 45 per cent. Groundnut cake was least effective in managing muskmelon wilt.
