Abstract

For production of better quality strains; hvbridiaation studies were carried out between two strains of Pleurotus. sajor-caju, namely, ITCC 1725 and a wild strain collected from Pauri Garhwal. Single spore isolates of both the strains had weaker mycelium than dicaryotic one Lack clamp connections did not produce fruit bodies when grown in usual way on wetted chopped paddy straw. Intra- and inter-stock matings were performed among these monokaryons which showed heterothallism and tetrapolarity in P. sajor-caju. When cultures obtained by these intra- and inter-stock crossings were cultivated for their yield potential, it was noticed that interstock hybrids produced more crop yield and in lesser time than that of intrastock hybrids.
