Abstract

The Trichoderma spcies are widely used in agriculture as biofungicides and plant growth promoters. There are more than 200 species that are taxonomically well defined. Like other fields of biology, research on Trichoderma has also reaped the benefits of advances in genomics, with more than seven species having been sequenced. Apart from agriculture and industry, medical science can also benefit from Trichoderma genomics, as these fungi could be a very important source of many novel, yet to be discovered, bioactive secondary metabolites. Here, recent advances made on Trichoderma genetics and genomics have been summarized, and outlined how research and application on Trichoderma could be useful by these new developments.
