Inheritance studies in three wheat cultivars viz., HD 2501, HD 2687 and HW 2004 against 3 pathotypes 21-1 (24G5), 40A (62G29) and 117-5 (166G2-2) of Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici showed the presence of two dominant independent genes for resistance each in HD 2501 and HD 2687 and one dominant and one recessive gene in HW 2004. The segregation pattern in reciprocal crosses (AL x parent) and analysis of BC1 and BC2 to pathotype 21-1 (24G5) confirmed the above findings. The F2 seedlings of the cross between cultivar HD 2501 and HD 2687 to pathotype 21-1 (24G5) did not segregate indicating a common factor/s providing resistance to the above pathotype. The F2 seedling of crosses between HW 2004 with HD 2501 and HD 2687 were necrotic.
