Abstract

Different germplasms of Zingiber officinale were evaluated, during 1997 and 1998, for their reaction to Phyllosticta zingiberis [Phoma zingiberis] under field conditions in India. The disease was scored on a 1 to 9 point scale and reactions were categorised based on different combinations of mean, standard deviation and mean deviation. Germplasms SG-554, V1S18 and RGS-5 were resistant and none of the germplasm was free from the disease. This disease is reported for the first time from Chhattisgarh,Madhya Pradesh, India.
