Abstract

Polyamine biosynthesis inhibitors significantly inhibited citrinin production by P. citrinum. Both BCHA (cyclohexamine) and MGBG (methyl glyoxol bis) (guanyl hydrazone) at 7.5 mM completely inhibited citrinin production and reduced production by 97.5 and by 94% at 5.0 mM. DFMO (difluoromethyl ornithine) at 7.5 mM reduced mycelial growth of P. citrinum by 76% and citrinin production by 83%.
