Incidence of onion downy mildew and its impact on yield

During the March-May growing seasons in 1990-93, the incidence of onion downy mildew caused by Peronospora destructor, was surveyed in 7 districts of Himachal Pradesh, India. The relative disease distribution was investigated and a regression analysis was carried out. The disease appeared on seed crops in January/February and on bulb crops in the 3rd/4th week of March. The highest disease incidence was in Chamba and the lowest was in Sirmour. The disease was worse in damp conditions. Yield losses increased with increased disease severity.
