Abstract

P. pisi [P. viciae] and U. viciae-fabae occurred together on peas in the Indian Punjab. Tests using 34 pea lines suggested that peas were first infected by U. viciae-fabae followed by infection by P. pisi. Resistant cultivars PMR-3 and Bonneville were P. pisi-free. It is concluded that infection by U. viciae-fabae conditioned pea leaf tissues of P. pisi-susceptible lines to make them a preferred substrate for P. pisi development and sporulation but this effect was not apparent on P. pisi-resistant lines.
