Morpho-cultural variability in Exserohilum turcicum isolates of Jammu
190 / 154
Abstract
Variability among isolates of Exserohilum turcicum from maize producing areas of Jammu was determined on the basis of morpho-cultural and pathogenic variation. Among the morpho-cultural characteristics, the isolates varied with respect to colony characteristics, septation, spore size, pigmentation etc. The results exhibited considerable variation among E. turcicum isolates and revealed that the observed colony growth of Exserohilum turcicum on PDA was profuse, irregular and sparse while pigmentation recorded were red, grey and black. However, number of septation recorded ranged from 1 to 9 septa. Size of conidia varied from 71.8 x 21.6 to 120.4 x 34.7µm where as shape of conidia observed were curved, elongated and spindle. Variation in respect of virulence pattern on twelve maize genotypes was also observed. On the basis of similarity in morpho-cultural and pathogenic characteristics, the isolates were classified into four groups viz. A (Et1, Et2 and Et4), B (Et3, Et5 and Et8), C (Et6, Et7 and Et11) and D (Et9, Et10 and Et12).Downloads
