Abstract

Present investigation was aimed at identification of suitable mutant or a combination of mutants influencing race specific resistance to wilt in chickpea. Experimental material was consisted of the population of three selected varieties of chickpea (JG63, JG74, and JG130) grown in the Seed Breeding Farm, Dept. of Plant Breeding and Genetics, College of Agriculture, Jabalpur (M.P.) under AICRP on chickpea during Rabi 2014-15. Dry seeds (10-12% moisture) of these varieties were irradiated with different doses of gamma rays (150, 200 and 400GY). Another set of pre-soaked seeds in distilled water (12hrs.) was treated with Ethyl Methane Sulphonate (EMS) at different concentration (0.3, 0.4 and 0.5%). Some portion of seeds irradiated at 150 and 200GY Gamma-ray doses were also treated with 0.3% and 0.4% EMS independently. Efficacy of Gamma rays, EMS and their combination treatment screened for resistance in M2 progeny mutant chickpea against race2 and race4 of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris by using root dip inoculation technique. 400GY treatment of physical mutagen and combination treatment of 200GY + 0.3% EMS exhibited resistance against both the races of Fusarium in all the three-selected genotypes whereas, 0.4% EMS showed resistance against both the races of Fusarium for two genotypes i.e., JG63, JG130.
