Abstract

Thoracotomy is a surgical procedure in which a surgical incision was made to see and reach lungs or other organs of thoracic cavity. Common techniques used in large animals are, intercostal incision, rib resection and split rib resection. It can be performed in a standing animal or animal casted in lateral recumbency (Domingues et al., 2020). The primary indication of thoracotomy in cattle has been for the treatment of conditions like, pericarditis, diaphragmatic hernia, thoracic foreign bodies, cardiovascular anomalies and exploratory purposes (Norm et al., 1992).
