Prevalence of Haemoproteuscolumbae in Pigeons in Jaipur City

The screening of sheltered pigeons for Hemoproteuscolumbae confirmed the presence of this haemoprotozoan in10 out of 18 pigeons in Jamdoli area of Jaipur District. The two affected pigeons among theseĀ suffered from circling movement and torticollis and died after 2 days, while others were apparently healthy. In the present study, the overall prevalence of Haemoproteuscolumbae in domestic pigeons was recorded as 55.5%.in Jamdoli area of Jaipur District and all the 18 birds (100%) were found infested with Pseudolynchiacanariensis, a vector that transmits this haemoprotozoan parasite.
