Aims and scope
The Journal of Livestock Biodiversity, published by the Society for Conservation of Domestic Animal Biodiversity (SOCDAB, Reg. No. 482, year 1998-99), is a scientific publication dedicated to research and advancements in the field of animal genetic resources, conservation and the biodiversity of domestic livestock and poultry. SOCDAB was established with the goal of promoting the conservation and sustainable use of animal genetic resources. SOCDAB resolved to publish its own research Journal by the name of ‘Journal of Livestock Biodiversity’ with the first publication in 2009. The Journal of Livestock Biodiversity was launched as a platform to publish research, case studies and reviews related to the conservation of domestic animal biodiversity. The publication serves as an outlet for researchers, breeders, conservationists and policymakers involved in the conservation of rare and indigenous livestock breeds.
The journal covers a wide range of topics, including:
- Phenotypic and genetic characterization of livestock breeds
- Genetic diversity/evolution of livestock breeds
- Omics in farm animal genetic resources
- Conservation strategies for endangered domestic species
- Sustainable use and management of animal genetic resources
- Breeding programs for indigenous livestock
- Impact of environmental and climatic changes on livestock biodiversity
- Cultural and historical significance of domestic animals in human societies
Peer Review Process
All submissions are initially evaluated by the Editor. If deemed appropriate for further review, they are then assessed by independent, anonymous expert reviewers. Key factors in this process include how well the work fits the journal’s scope, the overall quality of the manuscript, the originality and potential impact of the research. All peer review is anonymized and submission is online via https://epubs.icar.org.in/index.php/JLB.
Each paper submitted for publication is sent to referees for peer review. They are selected on the following basis:
- Expertise in the related areas of submitted paper
- Having no potential conflicts of interest
- Capability of logical and unbiased critique
- Reliable in returning reviews
- Adherence to timelines
Referees are expected to respond to the editor's request for revision within a limited period (30 days), which is clearly stated by the editor. If the referees are unable to review the article within the specified time frame, they are requested to return the manuscript immediately without providing comments. This will allow the editor to promptly assign the manuscript to another reviewer, minimizing delays in the review process.
- If the reports of both referees disagree about the suitability of the paper for publication, decision is taken by the editor in consultation with the editorial board.
- Comments received from both referees: The article is sent to the author for modification along with comments from referees. At this stage the editor completes the preliminary editing. It includes checking in-house style (presentation of title, affiliations, present address, abstract, scientific nomenclature, text and reference presentation).
- Comments not received from both referees: If comments are not received from both referees, a reminder is sent to them.
- Comments not received from one referee: A reminder is sent to the referee who is not responding. However, if a reply is not received in the stipulated time, the editor takes suitable action based on comments received from one referee.
The editor's decision independently or in consultation with the editorial board, is final, which is communicated to the author.
