Manurial Treatments, Microbiological PopulationAbstract
THE crop-producing power of a soil is influenced by its physical and chemical conditions, such as texture, moisture content, aeration and presence of nutrients essential for plant growth. The availability of these nutrients is directly or indirectly affected by the activities of the soil micro-organisms. By modifying the soil, as by manuring, the numbers and activities of the micro-organisms are modified , this is followed by a modification of the avail-ability of plant nutrients. By adding an abundance of organic matter as Nvel 1 as by introducing fertilizers, the development of various groups of micro-organisms, in-cluding fungi, actinomyces and bacteria, are favoured.
