Manurial Requirements, Fertilizers in CultivatorsAbstract
The district of Darbhanga occupied an extensive area in the central region of North Bihar and is bounded on the west by the district of Muzaffarpur and on the east by the districts of Monghyr and Saharsa. The soils of the district are spread more or less on an alluvial plain with a general slope from north to south with slight depres- Sion in the centre. The textural make-up of the soils of the cultivated tracts in general varies from sandy-loam, loam to clay, and they as usual represent three main soil groups such as clay, loam and sandy-loam. The average annual rainfall of the district is 49•68 inches. The important major food crop of the district is paddy and this crop covers the largest arable acreage, i.e 1115296 acres. In order to assess the manurial requirements of paddy and other crops in this district and other districts of the State of Bihar, a very large number of comprehensive manurial trials in cultivators' fields are being conducted under the auspices of Manurial Tables Scheme ( now Field Experimental Service) since 1948.
