Abstract

Vertical mulching is a term which is used to describe the process of placing crop residue into vertical channels formed by a modified sub- soiler. It has been investigated at Purdue University, Lafayette, In- diana, U.S.A. since th.e summer of 1955. The operation is basically that of subsoiling with the difference that the channel formed by the subsoilcr is stablizcd by chopped organic rc- fusc collcctcd from the soil surfacc in the vicinity of the channel.
