Effect of alkali Salts: On Nitrogen Fixation

Abstract

Eversince the discovery of Azo- tobacter a non-symbiotic nitrogen fixing aerobes, the organisms have been studied in detail by numerous workers all over the world because of their possible association with fer- tility of soil. These studies have been generally from the stand point of the role of the organisms in the nitrogen cycle in nature, but the fact that the ability to fix the free nitrogen is regulated by the presence or absence of substances, has not been given proper attention.
