Abstract

India has adoptcd M. K. S. systcm and wc arc slowly changing from F. P. S. to M. K. S. system. In thc field of hydraulics spccially, thcrc are number of cmpcrical formulac in F. P. S. system which arc quitc commonly uscd in thc country, and it has bccomc ncccssary to undcr- stand the principlc of conversion, and the mcthod ofdcvcloping cquiva lent formulae in M. K. S. units. This paper presents ccrtain basic considerations in thc conversion of formulae from F. P. S. to M. K. S. system. T hc principlc of conversion is illustrated by a numbcr of nurnc- rical examples. or forcc, Icngth and timc (F, L, T) arc thc basic fundamental dimen- sions involved in any measurement. It is possiblc to cxprcss any physical quantity in terms of (M, L, T) or (F, L, T). Force and mass are re- latcd by Ncwton's Law:
