Abstract

Though a large number of physical, physico-chemical and chemical properties of soils are related to their erodibilty but soil scientists have been particularly interested in obtaining an index of erodibility by me- asuring some physical properties or group of properties of the soils. The pioneer workers on this aspect are Middleton (1930) who established a quantitative relation of erosion ratio and dispersion ratio with erodibility and Bouyoucos (1935) who suggested clay ratio as a possible index of erodibility. Percolation ratio and colloid/moisture equivalent ratio have also been found to serve as suitable indices of erodibility by many workers. Lutz's (1934) findings pointed out that the erosiveness was due to ease of dispersion and low state of aggregation.
