Studies on Determination of pH in Different Soil Systems
58
Abstract
Soil reaction is one of the most important properties because of its relation to produc- tion potential of soil for most of the crops. It also provides information regarding the status of available fraction of total nutrients, microbial activity as well as basis for many inferences concerning soil development and past use. pH of soil is usually measured potentiometrically using glass electrode with calomel half cell but pH value varies widely with the method of preparation of the soil system (Reed & Curving, 1945). Soil pH measured on saturated soil paste is supposed to be one of the standard method as it is nearest representative of field condition.
