Carrying Capacity Study under the Different Grass Land Management Practices at Deochanda Experiment Station, Damodar Valley Corporation

Abstract
The practice of over-grazing in the Upper Damodar Catchment has denuded the grasslands of its better species and exposed the land surface to the erosion hazards due to over-grazing. The carrying capacity of the local grasslands is very low. The supply of green feed to the cattle for a prolonged period under controlled condition is, therefore, one of the measures towards protecting the denuded grasslands from erosion hazards caused by over-grazing. With this objective in view a study on carrying capacity was under-taken in the year 1959 at Deochanda Experiment Station of D. V. C. for assessing the carrying capacity of the grasslands of this region under different grassland management practices by which more number of cattle can be maintained in an unit area.
