Irrigation and Nitrogen Management of Khair (Acacia catechu) Saplings in Red Soils of Hazaribagh (Bihar)
20
Abstract
In Bihar most of the forests are poorly developed and subject to various vagaries such as deforestation, overgrazing and soil erosion. The soil fertility has gone to the minimum idue to lack of mangement and care of forest land. However, efforts are now being made to increase the fertility of forest land in addi- tion to vast afforestation of waste and eros ded lands. For a new plantation, proper selection of dryad species and ascertaining the optimum need of moisture and nutrients of their saplings are most important aspects for successful establishment and quick gro- wth.
