Abstract

An attempt is made to study the relationship between water retention characteristics of soil namely field capacity (FC), wilting point (WP), available water capacity (A W) and their physical parameters such as sand, silt, clay and organic content. For this analysis around 120 soil samples of 25 soil series covering the complete textural range from sandy loam to clay, have been considered. A regression analysis for water retention characteristics has been carried out with a single textural parameter and multitextural parameters. The effect of organic content on the above relations has also been studied and found to be negligible in two parameter analysis. It has been observed that there is a greater improvement in the correlation coefficient of two parameter analysis over that of the single parameter. It has also been observed that any two textural parameters can be considered for the regression analysis.
