Suitability of teak in Soils of Melghat Tehsil Amraoti District Maharashtra

Abstract
Land evaluation study has been made in Melghat Tehsil, Amraoti District, Maharashtra for teak forest vegetation in order to attract the attention of planners dealing afforestation programme. 91.2 % of area has been assessed to be moderately suitable for teak according to land quality where 8.8% land falls in marginally suitable category. The soils of moderately suitable land comprise deep, loamy skeletal. Thpic Ustorthents/Udic Ustochrepts (Amraoti, Bothia and Mutai series) and loamy skeletal,/Fine Udic ustochrepts (Bedhera and Tarubanda series). The soils of marginally suitable lands are deep to very deep, Fine Udicilypic chromusterts (Hardoli/Loni and Pathrot series). The physiographic situation, drainage condition are and base rich parent material accounted for placing different soils in moderately suitable (S2) class for teak where clay nzineralogy of soils and drainage condition ae responsible for placing Hardoli, Loni and Pathrot soil series in marginally suitable class (53). Land evaluation study could guide the planners and managers for undertaking future afforestation programme.
