Rainfall Characteristics of Jhansi for Crop Planning Under Rainfed Condition - A Decadal Change

Abstract
Rainfall is one of. the matt Important weather factor That controls the crop production in most important way in rainfed areas. The Crop production is virtually dictated by the availability of rain In such areas, Analysis of rainfall and its characterisation is one of the most Important aspects which profoundly reflects the cropping of a region and scientific crop planning, Me rainfed agricultural A much dependent on onset, progress and spatial distribution, Present study indicates an analysis of rainfall pattern of Jhansi over the years on decadal basis for three decades with a view to find out the possible shift/change in rainfall pattern in relation to onset, termination (end) and length of rainy season including probable periods' of occurrence of thy spells, Data indicates a possible shift of pattern of rainy season over the years, Delay In few days in onset and also an early cessation of rains together reduced the effective rainy period by one week in each decade suggesting thereby a less growing period of crops over the decades, This short duration of rainy season will affect the production of traditional Kharif crops in this region, An alternative approach based on short growing period of crops is required fin- successful crop production in rainfed areas of Jhansi.
