Abstract

To assess the influence of IPNS on cotton seed quality an experiment was conducted with ten treatments, blanket recommendations, Soil Test Crop Response (STCR_-NPK alone for 3.1, 3.3 and 3.5 t ha-1 yield targets, STCR-IPNS for 3.1, 3.3 and 3.5 t ha-1 yield targets, farmers’ practice and absolute control in RBD with three replications at farmers' holdings at Varichikudy, Karaikal. The soil of the experimental field was clay in texture, taxonomically Typic Haplusterts. The results of the field experiment showed that the application of STCR+IPNS-35 q ha-1 resulted in higher plant height, LAI, monopodia per plant, and sympodia per plant at all crop growth stages, which was comparable to other STCR+IPNS treatments. A higher number of fruiting points per plant (73.47) was recorded in the STCR+IPNS-3.3 t ha-1, which was on par with other STCR+IPNS treatments. Higher bolls plant-1 (64.32), boll setting percentage (87.66 %), boll weight (4.76 g) and Bartlett’s Earliness Index (BEI) (0.59) were recorded in STCR+IPNS-3.5 t ha-1. The highest seed cotton yield (36.00 q ha-1), stover yield (5930 kg ha-1), ginning per cent (42.52 %), seed index (9.19) and lint index (6.82) were recorded in STCR+IPNS-3.5 t ha-1 treatment. The highest seed cotton yield in STCR-IPNS 3.5 t ha-1 was 40.35 % and 34.63 % higher than the seed cotton yield recorded by farmers’ practice (2.65 t ha-1) and blanket recommendation (2.67 t   ha-1), respectively, and 114.9 % higher than control (1.67 t ha-1).  and response ratio (7.10).
