Abstract

Potato wart (Synchytrium endobioticum) is under domestic quarantine in India (in the hills of West Bengal). Since the
imposition of domestic quarantine, joint surveys at regular interval have been conducted till 2002 to know the status of
prevalence and distribution of the disease in the quarantined developmental blocks. Recent survey conducted during
2018 revealed the presence of wart in 11 out of 17 localities in Bijanbari block and in one locality in Sukhiapokhri block.
Though standing crop was not found in other areas but few wart infected tubers were observed in the harvested lots and
in the market thereby indicating the presence of wart in these areas too and warrants more regular surveys in the years
to come to know the exact prevalence of the disease.
