SOLANUM WILD AND CULTIVATED SPECIES AS SOURCE OF RESISTANCE TO COLD INDUCED SWEETENING
129 / 150
Abstract
In order to identify the sources of resistance to cold induced sweetening, glucose estimation was done in 72 accessions of 15 wild and cultivated species along with seven released Indian potato varieties during two consecutive years before and after cold storage. Accessions namely SS1763-6, (S. albicans), SS1780-3 (S. berthaultii), SS1732, SS1735-2, SS1846 (S. demissum), SS1652-9 (S. jamesi), SS2044-5 (S. tuberosum ssp. andigena) maintained low glucose level (glucose content <50 mg/ 100 g fresh tuber weight) before and after cold storage over the years. These accessions may be useful for breeding varietiesresistant to cold induced sweetening.
