Abstract

A comparative study of the insulation eillcie:ncies of expanded polystyrene slabs andmulti-layer gunny fabric in long distance transportation of ftesh iced fish was made.Used plywood boxes (second hand teachests) were employed as containers and theexperiments conduded between Kakinada and Calcuttla. All the three insulantstried, namely, 25.4 mm thick expanded polystyrene slab, four and two layer gunny(jute) fabric, all sealed in 150 gauge polythene sheets, showed comparable insulationefficiencies, considering total bacterial counts, organoleptic qualities and TMA andTVN values of the transported fish as parameters.
