Abstract

This study was performed to spread more public awareness as well as to know the medicinal and nutritional values of this plant in favor of humanity. Samples of Pandanus amaryllifolius were collected from three different locations in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and investigated for their nutritional, anti-nutritional and physicochemical characteristics, as well as antioxidant activity and the potent component was identified using Heat Map and PCA. The results revealed that a good concentration of carbohydrate (608.7 mg glucose/g), phenol (46.7 mg GAE/g), flavonoid (20.85 mg QE/g) in the plant parts added with notable TSS (4.80 ˚ Brix), chlorophyll (7.28 µg/g) and carotenoid (9.67µg/g) content in the leaves were ecorded. The antioxidant activities (80.21 % RSA) in plant parts propound potent application in nutraceutical industries. The heat map and PCA illustrated that the leaf was the most potent plant parts than other plant parts and hence, P.amaryllifolius of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has potent phytochemical and antioxidant properties.
