The present study was conducted to assess combining ability for horticultural traits in cherry tomato at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, HP, India during Kharif 2022 and 2023. A Line × Tester design involving 12 lines and 4 testers were crossed to develop F1 progenies. Significant variation was observed for yield and contributing traits including fruit weight, number of fruits per cluster, total soluble solids and ascorbic acid content. Estimates of s2SCA were higher in magnitude than s2GCA (Average) for all the characteristics under study indicating the predominant role of non-additive gene action (s2D). Parental genotypes UHF-CT-L-14, UHF-CT-L-16 and UHF-CT-L-17 emerged as superior general combiners for yield and related traits, while UHF-CT-L-22 and UHF-CT-L-24 were notable for quality attributes. Cross combinations viz., UHF-CT-L-16 × Punjab Kesar Cherry, UHF-CT-L-13 × Punjab Red Cherry, UHF-CT-L-24 × Punjab Sona Cherry and UHF-CT-L-23 × Punjab Sona Cherry exhibited significant SCA effects for yield and its contributing characteristics, indicating potential heterotic combinations. The identified promising genotypes and their cross combinations can be utilized for developing high-yielding cherry tomato varieties with superior quality.
