Abstract

A study was conducted during 2005–06 to discuss the application of non-linear Gompertz curve to measure the growth data. Data on banana (Musa×Paradisiaia) production in India is used. By using specific starting values, the parameters of these models were estimated using Gauss-Newton method for non-linear estimation. It was found that the non-linear Gompertz curve is suitable to match the growth of production. It was found that samples have the sum squares error, which is low and the variance analysis conducted showed that this model is statistically significant.
