Out of 7 parental lines and 23 F1 crosses of brinjal (Solanum melongena L .) tested during 2000-2003 in bacterial wiltsick plot, 2 parents 'Swarna Shyamli' ('CH 249') and 'Swarna Pratibha' ('CH 309') were found resistant to Ralstonia wilt [Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuchi et al.]. Only 1 F1 cross 'CH 249' x 'CH 792' showed resistant reaction in all the 3 years of testing. However, 1 parent, viz 'CH 792', was found moderately resistant and 3 F1 crosses, viz 'CH 309' x 'CH 381'. 'CH 309' x 'CH 249' and 'CH 381' x 'Swarna Mani', showed moderately resistant reaction to Ralstonia wilt. Plant survival (%) in resistant parental lines 'CH 309', 'CH 249' and F1 cross 'CH 249' x 'CH 792' was 80.0, 81.7 and 81.7. respectively, and in moderately resistant crosses 'CH 309' x 'CH 249', 'CH 309' x 'CH 381' and 'CH 381' x 'Swarna Mani' 66.7. 66.7 and 68.3. 'Swarna Shyamli' and 'Swarna Pratibha' have now been released for cultivation in Zone I (Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal) and Zone VII (Madhya Pradesh, Maharashratra and Jharkhand).Downloads
