Participation of Generation Z Farmers in Agricultural Regeneration in Indonesia: The Role of Internal Factors and Extension-Related Social Support

Farmer regeneration is a strategic issue for the sustainability of Indonesian agriculture, given the low involvement of the younger generation in the agricultural sector. This study aims to analyze the influence of internal factors and extended social support on the participation Generation Z farmers in agricultural regeneration. The study used a quantitative approach, with a survey of 160 Generation Z farmers in East Belitung Regency, selected through multistage random sampling. Data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results showed that internal factors consisting of motivation, self-efficacy, and social learning had a positive and significant effect on the participation of Generation Z farmers (β = 0.836; p < 0.005). In contrast, social support for counseling from peers, community leaders, and the government did not have a significant effect (β = 0.069; p = 0.704). The research model has high clarity power, with a determination coefficient of 0.745. These findings indicate that individual capacity and learning processes more strongly influence Generation Z's involvement in agriculture than does social support from extension. Therefore, farmer regeneration strategies need to focus on strengthening motivation, self-efficacy, and social learning through an extension approach that is better adapted to the characteristics of the digital generation.
