Abstract

Six goats of 8-10 months age, of local mixed breed were used to study the histology and histochemistry of epiglottis and arytenoid cartilages of goat. Histologically, the tip and base of epiglottis, corniculate, muscular and vocal process of arytenoid cartilage was lined by stratified squamous non-keratinized epithelium with lymphoid follicles, fine blood capillaries, serous demilunes, adipose tissue and seromucous glands in propria submucosa. The medial surface of vocal process of arytenoid cartilage was lined by pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium with goblet cells. Histochemically, the seromucous glands showed positive reaction for glycogen, acidic and neutral mucopolysaccharides, acidic mucopolysaccharides and proteins.
