The present research work was carried out on lenses of normal and cataractous eye of dog from six non- descript senile dogs. Anterior epithelium of normal lens consisted of single layer of cuboidal cells with round to oval centrally placed nuclei whereas, in the lens of cataractous eye, lens epithelial cells were pleomorphic in shape. The lens fibers of cataract eye were collapsed and disordered and found to be swollen, gaining balloon like appearance referred to as balloon cells. The Periodic acid Schiff, Alkaline and Acid phosphatase activities showed intense reaction in the capsule, epithelium and cortex region while PAS showed moderate activity, Alkaline and acid phosphatase activities mild in nucleus region of both the lenses of normal and cataractous eye.
