Abstract

The development of connections between rete-testis and epididymis was studied in 23 male buffalo fetuses of gestational age 40-184 days. The samples were collected from the slaughter house. After collection, the samples were fixed and processed by standard protocols for light microscopic study. The observations revealed that the connection between the distal end of the mesonephric duct and the urogenital sinus was established at 40 days of gestational age. The connection between the proximal part of mesonephric duct and vasa efferentia was established at 85 days gestational age. The proximal part of vasa efferentia makes an incomplete junction with the non-luminized extra-testicular rete testis (ETRT) at 85 days of gestation. The completely luminized extra testicular rete testis channels along end-to-end anastomosis with vasa efferentia were observed at 143 days of gestation. The ETRT tubules disappeared at 184 days of gestational age. The present study may be useful to detect any abnormality occurring in growing fetus.
