Abstract

The present study was undertaken to enlighten the differences in the morphometry of the skull of Gaddi sheep of Himachal Pradesh. The skulls of adult sheep of Gaddi breed aged 2.5 to 4 years old were used for the present study. The age was determined by the dentition. A total of eighteen craniometric measurements were recorded and compared. The facial length was 13.71±0.342cm in Gaddi sheep. Facial breadth was measured 7.206±0.142 cm whereas, the breadth of occipital condyle measured 4.45±0.053 cm. Facial length, facial breadth, condylobasal length and width of occipital condyles showed the statistically significant difference at p<0.05. Craniometric measurement can be used as baseline data in various Vetero-legal as well as forensic cases encountered by banking agencies and police for insurance cases.
